Charlie Cox Will Be Returning As Daredevil In The Marvel Cinematic Universe
It looks like Charlie Cox is here to stay as Daredevil in the MCU.
Head of Marvel Kevin Fiege has finally confirmed that Charlie Cox will reprise his role as Matt Murdoch/Daredevil in the MCU if they decide to bring the character into the cinematic universe. Cox first appeared as the man without fear when Daredevil debuted as a Netflix exclusive show back in 2015. The show continued on Netflix for three full seasons before it was cancelled. Charlie Cox also played the character in the spinoff Netflix show The Defenders. In the end, Marvel didn’t appear to connect any of their Netflix stories to the wider cinematic universe, however that could now be changing.
Hardcore fans of Daredevil were left feeling shocked and disappointed when news of the cancellation of the show first appeared. All three seasons were critically acclaimed, and the third season even set the seeds for Bullseye to be one of the shows antagonists going forward. Once it was made apparent that the show would not be continuing on Netflix, fans joined together imploring Marvel to include Charlie Cox as Daredevil in the MCU. For the first time, we now have concrete confirmation that Charlie Cox will indeed continue playing Daredevil going forward.
Kevin Fiege recently sat down for an interview with Cinemablend, and confirmed that Cox will be involved in the MCU as Daredevil going forward, if they decide to include the character in the wider cinematic universe. One important thing to stress is that Marvel has not officially cast Cox as the character as of this point, but Fiege is merely confirming that the character will not be recast if he were to ever join the MCU. Below is what Kevin Fiege had to say on the matter:
“If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”
It stands to reason that Marvel may continue with the casting of other characters in the franchise like Kingpin, if they were to decide to include these characters in the MCU. The following for Daredevil is absolutely huge, so the uproar from fans to have any of the characters recast would be insurmountable. Cox’s portrayal of Matt Murdoch and Daredevil was so revered by fans, that Marvel would certainly have a tough time explaining their decision to recast him if they went down that route. Thankfully, it looks like fans no longer have to worry about this – Charlie Cox is Daredevil.
