The Batman Movie Is Catwoman’s Origin Story According To Zoe Kravitz

Zoe Kravitz recently shared more details about her character in The Batman.

The Batman movie is set to be an origin story for Selina Kyle/Catwoman according to Zoe Kravitz who is set to play the character in the upcoming movie. Kravitz is set to star alongside Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Paul Dano will play The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright will play Commissioner Gordon and Colin Farrell is set to play The Penguin.

We now know that The Batman movie will be set in the Caped Crusader’s second year as the masked vigilante. Batman will uncover deep rooted corruption within Gotham, which could even trail back to his own family. The Riddler will make things tricky for The Dark Knight. The Riddler is set to be portrayed as a serial killer in the upcoming movie targeting Gotham’s most wealthy. The Batman will draw inspiration from popular Batman comics such as Year One, The Long Halloween and Ego.

Zoe Kravitz recently sat down with Empire Magazine for an interview. Kravitz provided more details about her role in The Batman, and confirmed that the movie will be an origin story for Catwoman. Below is what Kravitz had to say:

“This is an origin story for Selina. So, it’s the beginning of her figuring out who she is, beyond just someone trying to survive. I think there’s a lot of space to grow and I think we are watching her become what I’m sure will be the femme fatale.”

The trailers that have been released for The Batman so far seem to hint at a very complicated relationship between Batman and Catwoman – which would certainly be staying true to the source material. The official synopsis of the movie suggests that Batman will be looking to recruit allies in his bid to stop The Riddler.

It isn’t too farfetched to think that Zoe Kravitz’ Catwoman will serve as an ally for this upcoming story, with the character always seemingly walking a fine line between good and evil in the comics. We’ve seen Catwoman come across as somewhat of an antiheroine in past iterations of the character in video games and movies – acting as both an enemy and love interest to Batman (sometimes simultaneously!)

Zoe Kravitz will become the fifth woman to play the role of Catwoman on screen. Fans will be interested to learn that Kravitz does actually have experience of voicing Catwoman previously in the LEGO Batman Movie. The casting for The Batman is very intriguing, and fans all across the world are no doubt itching to see how Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz bring these beloved characters to life on the big screen once again. The Batman is currently slated for a March 2022 release date.
